President Franklin Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt insisted that art and art education be included into the ambitious New Deal Programs, including the WPA. To make that a reality, WPA administrators created a series of regional art centers where artists created artworks for public buildings, but also offered art classes in a wide variety of disciplines.
